Walk the Wight voted best way to explore outdoors
For the sixth consecutive year, the Island’s community has voted Earl Mountbatten Hospice’s Walk the Wight as the people’s choice.
At a ceremony last night (Thursday, 1 February 2018), the hospice’s epic fundraiser was named the best way to explore outdoors at the annual Red Funnel myIsleofWight awards. The awards are the Island’s only public voted-for awards and celebrate the best that the Island has to offer. Over 30,000 votes were cast across 24 unique categories. The top three nominees from each category, who received the most votes, were invited to the awards ceremony at The Cow Co. Tapnell.
On scooping the coveted award, Jax Jones, major events fundraiser and Walk the Wight organiser, said: “We are thrilled to receive our sixth myIsleofWight accolade, particularly being amongst such worthy nominees in our category. We hope being named as the best way to explore outdoors will inspire people to sign up for Walk the Wight 2018 and support our hospice. Thank you so much to everyone who voted and everyone who makes Walk the Wight the special event that it is.”
Nigel Hartley, Chief Executive, said: “Walk the Wight is our flagship fundraising event and is known worldwide for offering the chance to appreciate the Island’s stunning scenery and has an amazing atmosphere. Every year, we’re overwhelmed by the community’s continuing support for the walk, and it’s great to see it being recognised again at these awards. Thank you to all involved, and to Red Funnel myIsleofWight for organising this occasion.”
Registration is now open for Walk the Wight 2018.
