Island’s Hospice Awarded “Business in the Community 2008”
The prestigious Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce Awards for Excellence this year honoured the Earl Mountbatten Hospice with it’s much sought after “Business in the Community” Award.
The Award recognises the vital role the Islands Hospice plays in the local community and simultaneously highlights how important a well managed business ethos is to the smooth running of this vital service.
The Hospice provides care for 800 Island residents each year with life limiting conditions, both onsite at the Hospice and in patients’ homes. To achieve this, the hospice offers employment to a range of professionals with a variety of skills and expertise. Managing paid employees and volunteers, adhering to employment legislation, producing sound business policies to ensure the Hospice thrives in the future and making tough decisions is all part of running the Hospice – but is not often in the forefront of peoples minds.
The Chamber presented the award to the Hospice at an event held at Cowes Yacht Haven in November. Finance Manager Cathy Taylor and EMH Trustee George Hibberd received the trophy to rapturous applause – the win was very popular indeed.
Being recognised by The Chamber as a business in the heart of the community is acknowledgment from the business community itself of the vital role the Island’s Hospice plays in Island life.
