Liz is overall responsible for all the palliative care nursing and nurses at the hospice both within the hospice (In-Patient & Day-Care) and in the community (Hospice@home, Macmillan and Marie Curie and Hospital Palliative Care)

My interest in Palliative Care began when I was working as a District Nurse. Keen to develop my skills further, I obtained the position of Home Care Sister at the Sue Ryder Hospice (St John’s) in Bedfordshire. This proved to be the first of many steps along my career pathway in Palliative Nursing.
Over the past 20 years (Goodness, that makes me feel old!) I have gained significant clinical, educational and managerial experience working in the roles of Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist for both Hospital and Community teams, Education Coordinator within a Specialist Palliative Care unit and a period of 10 months Acting Matron at St John’s Hospice.
After completing a BA (Hons) in Professional Practice Palliative Care, I was offered the position of Hospice Community Liaison Sister, working closely with the Consultant in Palliative Medicine, Hospice and wider multi-disciplinary team.
I am married to Steve and we have 2 daughters aged 14 and 18 years. Our family moved to the Isle of Wight in 2003 and I joined the Marie Curie Nursing Service. In 2005 I was appointed as Marie Curie Coordinator/team leader and was responsible for the management, development and coordination of the service. I am totally committed to the philosophy and practice of Palliative Nursing and together with my colleagues will continue to support, develop and enable the nursing teams to maintain the high standards of care that EMH is celebrated for.
My new role is both exciting and inspiring and I am looking forward to rising to the challenges that I know await me!
