A group of 5 sixth- formers from Medina High School, in Newport, have decided to raise money for The Hospice in an adventurous, exciting way whilst doing something they all enjoy. The team of cyclists consists of Arthur Halsey, Kieron Stewart, James Windley, Stephen Smith and Seb Voigt. Here they describe their challenge and their reasons for undertaking such an epic undertaking:
What are we doing?
We are cycling from coast to coast from the North to the South of France, in aid of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, the only Hospice on the Isle of Wight. We are aiming to cycle around eighty miles a day for around nine days in total, covering roughly seven hundred miles.
What do we aim to achieve?
We hope to feel a high level of personal achievement once we have completed our challenge, along with a greater knowledge into other countries and cultures. Also, we aim to raise a significant sum of money for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, to help them keep running the wonderful service to help people with terminal illnesses, and their families.
When is it taking place?
We will be cycling across France at the beginning of August 2010. This gives us time for frequent training sessions and several organisational meetings before our departure.
