About the Earl Mountbatten Hospice on the Isle of Wight

  • The Earl Mountbatten Hospice is the only hospice on the Isle of Wight and cares for over 800 patients every year who face life-threatening conditions and their families.
  • While the majority of patients suffer from cancer, the Hospice also cares for patients with motor-neurone disease, renal failure, congestive heart disease and chronic chest conditions.
  • Patients are referred to the Hospice by their doctor, Macmillan or St.Mary's Hospital when they face an incurable condition. This may be in the last week's of their life, but it may also be several years. We do this through our Day-Care Unit, 16 bed In-Patient ward, Out-Patients Unit and Family Support Team.
  • Our aim is to provide them with the best quality of life possible in the time that remains to them - medically, spiritually, holistically.
  • The Earl Mountbatten Hospice is an independent hospice and receives a grant from the local Primary Care Trust, which covers about a third of the running costs. For the remaining £2.2 million, the Hospice is dependent on the public's generosity.
