Could you help continue the work of the Hospice after you have gone?
By leaving a gift in your Will to the Island's Hospice, you will make an important difference to the lives of other people who are very ill and nearing the end of their lives.
The Hospice cares for over 800 Islanders each year and in the years ahead we know that number who need care will increase. But we are dependent on everyone's generosity to meet that need. A Gift in your Will will make the difference.
Save money making your Will during this October
To help make or update your Will easier the Hospice has arranged with a panel of Island solicitors to waive £100 of their usual fees during October 2010. All you have to do is to make a donation of £50 to the Hospice. To find out more contact Fundraising on 528989. There are no 'strings' attached and it is not dependent on you choosing to leave a Gift to the Hospice.
Why make a Will
It is surprising how many people die without making a Will. At which point the Government decides how your money will be distributed. It can be a long, drawn out affair which can be hard to cope with, just at a time when relatives are struggling to cope with the loss of a loved one. Making a Will ensures your money goes where you want it to.
Avoiding some Inheritance Tax.
Making a Will is very straightforward and lets you plan how you want your inheritance to be distributed. Any gifts you make to charity, including the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, are deducted before any Inheritance Tax is calculated, so that the amount of tax that may be liable on your estate is reduced. But we strongly advise you to contact a solicitor to help draw up your Will to ensure that your exact wishes are carried out.
Keeping your Will up-to-date.
Life changes. Your family changes. Your situation changes. So it is important to review your Will every five years or so. And it is simple to do. It may only need a codicil, but talk to your solicitor.
There are many ways to leave a gift to the Hospice. You can decide to leave a specific amount. Or you could leave a share of what is left after you have left specific bequests to individuals. Or you could leave a share of the value of the estate.
If you are thinking about leaving a gift in your Will and would like to talk to someone, before consulting a solicitor, please ring Karen Eeles on 01983 528989.
Hospice 'Tree of Hope'
The 'Tree of Hope' commemorates people who have made, or pledge to make, a Gift to the Hospice in their Will. The tree is sculpted against the wall of the Chapel from a wood called 'The Tree of Heaven'. Then your name is engraved onto a stainless steel leaf and hung on the 'tree'. If you are happy to let us know that you are pledging a gift in your will to the Hospice, then your leaf will be added straight away. For more information, please phone Karen Eeles on 01983 528989.
As a detail, to ensure your wishes are fulfilled correctly, please make sure your Will states Earl Mountbatten Hospice - as there are lots of hospices on the mainland.
Thank you for your support.
