Our Services
The Earl Mountbatten Hospice is the Island's centre of excellence in caring for people with life-shortening illnesses - and their families and carers.
We care for around 800 patients each year, absolutely free of charge. Patients are referred from their GP or the hospital.
Our aims are to:
Relieve pain and control symptoms of advanced disease
To provide emotional, social and spiritual support
To help patients maintain the highest possible quality of life
To permit independence and choice for as long as possible
To provide a caring environment which respects the dignity of the patient
To support patients, families and carers before and after bereavement
To support and provide opportunities for education and training staff and volunteers
To facilitate, co-ordinate communication, collaboration between agencies involved with palliative care.
We achieve this by taking a holistic approach to care, which includes nursing,
social, psychological and spiritual care as well as looking at alternative
ways to treat physical and mental suffering. We encourage both patients
and carers to take an active role in their care, as appropriate, accepting
that each carer, patient and professional is a unique individual.
